Method
For the Donuts
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Lightly grease a donut pan and set aside.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all of the dry ingredients until well combined.
Step 3
In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until the batter is smooth and just combined. Avoid overmixing.
Step 4
Transfer the batter to the prepared donut pan, filling each mold approximately halfway. You can use a spoon, piping bag, or a resealable plastic bag with the corner snipped off for easy filling.
Step 5
Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the donuts are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 6
Remove from the oven and allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 1 minute. Carefully transfer them to a wire rack and let cool for an additional 5 minutes before glazing.
Step 7
If you don't have a donut pan, use a lined muffin tin instead. Follow the same instructions and increase the baking time by 8–12 minutes, or until fully baked.
Caramel Glaze
Step 1
Combine all glaze ingredients in a medium saucepan. Whisk until smooth and fully incorporated.
Step 2
Place over medium-low heat and cook for approximately 2 minutes, whisking continuously, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the glaze is silky smooth.
Step 3
Remove from the heat and allow the glaze to cool for 1–2 minutes.
Step 4
Dip the tops of the slightly cooled donuts into the warm glaze, then place them glaze-side up on a wire rack. Allow any excess glaze to drip off before serving.
Step 5
If the glaze thickens while decorating, return it to low heat for 30 seconds to 1 minute, whisking until it becomes smooth and pourable again.
